owl baby

Over the holidays I finished this little toque for my cousin's baby (which will arrive any day now).
Maybe soon I can post a photo of the baby modeling it. I hope it will fit!

  1. Adorable hat! Well done! I am wondering where you got the pattern. I would love to make one for my baby due in June. I hope you don't mind me asking. Your hat is so cute and adorable. Thanks. Have a good day!

  2. Thanks! I didn't use a pattern - just improvised. I think it was around 80 stitches on circular needles. The sizing is guessed at - it would depend on your gauge and the predicted size of your baby's head;) I just did a 1 knit/1 purl rib for about 4 or 5 rows, and knit up the rest of the way until it seemed tall enough, then joined the top with the 'kitchener stitch' (there are tutorials online for this). Then I embroidered the face freehand. This was the hardest part. And I put a few stitches at the corners to define the 'ears'. You can kind of see that in the picture.

  5. I love babies that wear hats that are shaped like things. I mean I've seen the regulars: strawberries, apples, etc.

But never an owl. It's adorable.
