first collection

This is my first rock collection. Well, not counting things I picked up off the ground. I've been looking for it for ages, and finally found it hidden in our cluttered apartment. I brought it for show-and-tell in kindergarten, and while it was sitting on the counter at the back of the classroom, waiting for show-and-tell time, some kid covered up my name with blue marker. So mean! He vandalized my rock collection! I was so upset. But I wrote my name again on the lid with some stars and hearts. And my mom wrote my name on the underside of the lid and on the bottom of the box with my address. It was clearly a precious possession. I'm not sure about the math equations on the back. I can't imagine that I would have written those there, since it was such a special object to me, so maybe someone else did that too? Curious. Anyways, I'm so happy I found it! It is definitely my most treasured childhood artifact.

  5. I've been looking for mine too! I remember I got it as a child on a trip to Arizona. I can't imagine I've gotten rid of it...I so hope I can find it.

  6. I'm just posting about your beautiful paintings and yearning for my rock collection, too. I was so lucky, my uncle was an artesian well driller and used to supply me with so many beauties. For years we could never figure out what one mysterious chunk was and I believe you've painted it- bornite.

  7. My mom was born and raised in Kirkland Lake, and I still have lots of family there. What a small world. My first collection was shells I found and mounted for a science fair project. I still have all the shells with the paper/glue stuck to the back. :)
